The beginning of the trial for the former student accused of threatening to massacre El Camino students and faculty is prolonged due to today’s events in court.
Former student James Lemus said he’s been “very patient” with everything and has “done his time.” Lemus also said to Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Eric C. Taylor that he is not happy with the progress of the trial.
Defense Attorney Jonathan Cruz has been unable to receive a psychological evaluation of Lemus from the court-appointed specialist. Cruz filed a continuance today to the dismay of Lemus.
“I have my full trust in (Cruz),” Lemus said. “But this has taken a big chunk out of my life, I’ve lost all my hair, I want to get through this and hopefully finish school.”
Taylor was “sympathetic” to Lemus’ situation and chose the next meeting date for July 1 that will lead to the start of the trial on July 15.
As the hearing finished, Lemus looked to his mother Maria and said, “Bye mom.”
