Ian Abinoja is co-president of Vision 218 club.
What is the purpose of this club?
It is to expose EC students to design because design is all around us. We waant to expose them to unique places in L.A. as well. We also encourage design students to join. Their art really does improve because it is getting critiqued and showcased for people to see.
What is the main goal of the club?
We want people to see our art and realize that EC offers a great graphic design course. We want to be the face of EC when it comes to graphic design.
When and where do meetings take place?
We meet every Thursday from 1 to 1:55 p.m. in Art 211.
How many members are in the club?
There are about 25 members.
What is your job as co-president?
I pretty much run the meetings and get events organized and planned along with the other president. Our job is to carry out the goal of the club. Also to make sure that incoming members feel comfortable in the club.
How long has the club been on campus?
It has been here for three semesters. I was a part of the starting members, too.
What kinds of events has the club held in the past?
We went to college night at the Getty Museum. We got to meet other colleges and see the art at the Getty. We also went to the Griffith Park Observatory. It’s incredible how massive the universe is, especially compared to us. Also, a speaker from the Art Center College of Design came to EC and spoke to us. He told us what he did and motivated us to continue our studies in graphic design.
What kinds of events is the club planning?
At the end of the semester on June 12, we are showcasing some of our art at Pop Monster, a novelty store. Our showcase will be called “Inner Monster.” It will start from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Also, we are going to have a bonfire a couple of weeks after the showcase. It’s intended for us to relax and recall what we did during the semester.
