Trailing 9-3 after four innings against L.A. Harbor, the Warriors surged with seven runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 10-9 lead, but it would not be enough.
The Warriors ended the season on a nine-game losing streak.
Their last win occurred back on March 27 when the softball team beat L.A. Pierce 9-0 at the Santa Barbara Tournament.
“We kept hitting and hitting and we got to their first pitcher, and then their second pitcher. When they went back to the first pitcher and I was pleased,” coach Susie Calderon said, referring to the seven-run fifth inning.
The Seahawks regained the lead at 11-10 after five innings and won the game 14-10.
Starting pitcher Alyssa Stout went six innings and allowed 14 runs and 15 hits, while walking two against Harbor.
The Warriors finished the season 4-29 overall and 1-16 in the conference.
The Warriors were short-handed in pitching after pitcher Natasha Milosevich injured her arm and Stout had to pick it up.
“She did fine and got stronger towards the end of the season. She was the only pitcher left and she knew that she had to pick up the slack and pitch the rest of the way and she didn’t give up,” Calderon said.
Calderon said she was proud of the way the team played in the final game.
“We did fine and we were ahead 10-9 heading to the bottom of the fifth inning,” Calderon said.
Calderon said the Warriors had nothing to play for, but to go out there and have a good time.
“We just wanted to go out there and play our best and we had nothing to lose. We could have played spoilers,” Calderon said.
Shortstop Stephanie Hall went 2-5 with a single, double, two runs and one RBI and catcher Katie McGoldrick went 2-2 with a single, double, sacrifice fly, two runs and one RBI and second baseman Jennifer Hernandez went 2-4 with two singles and one run and one RBI and pitcher Stout went 1-3 with a single and one run and two RBI.
“We are recruiting right now and our main focus is pitching because we need pitching and we need at least three pitchers for next season,” Calderon said.
The Warriors played their best game of the year against Harbor and Calderon said she was proud.
“We didn’t get as many wins as I expected and when (Milosevich) blow her arm that was the turning point because (Stout) had to pitch the rest of the way,” Calderon said.
