ecent budget cuts caused over 150 EC students to walk out last Thusday, Lawerence Associated Student Body Project adviser said.
“It is a day of action to actually set the priority of the nation straight and in particular it is a day of action to protect public education,” Alireza Ahmadpour, art instructor, said.
The protest began Thursday morning when students walked out of class at 9:30 a.m. along with teachers to protest for a good cause.
The purpose of the strike is not only to unify people across higher education institutions and community colleges, but also provoke action and support among K-12 teachers and parents as well.
The strike was also driven by the misappropriation of funds as seen by those fighting to make education and health
“Some districts have support from the administration to (the students),” Lucy Guanuna, 23, EC student, said.
As the protestors walked, so many corporations and companies were very active trying to privatize other public schools.
“I never would have imagined that the UC’s budget, 17 percent of it comes from the state’s and the rest of it coming from big companies and so fourth; therefore, they have a huge influence on all the decisions we make in the campuses of America, Amadpour, said.
