The Warriors football team continued their early
season success as they dominated another
team and beat the Compton Tartars 57-0
at Compton Saturday. The win
moved the Warriors to No.1 in the nation
according to JCGridiron.com.
“Being No. 1 doesn’t mean anything
unless you win your games,” coach John
Featherstone said.
The Warrior’s next game is Saturday
against Bakersfield College at 6 p.m. at EC’s
Murdock Stadium. The Renegades come
into this weekend’s game ranked No.5 in
Southern California.
“We understand how important this
game is and we need to be ready for a sixty- minute football game against Bakersfield
College,” Featherstone said.
The Warriors, through three games,
have outscored L.A. Southwest, Long
Beach City and EC Compton Center 168-
32. The Warriors are averaging 56 points
per game, while holding their opponent
to 11 points through the first three games.
The team hasn’t been challenged yet this
season as it has been dominating all three
of its opponents from start to finish.
“We haven’t been challenged
for four quarters this season,” Featherstone
said.
Featherstone said he is proud of his
team’s play through the first three games
of the season.
“We have played hard the first three
games and had other player’s have playing
time and the team has a lot of enthusiasm
each game,” Featherstone said.
The team is prepared for every game
and they go through their weekly routine
to get there.
“We are well-prepared for every
game and work hard on conditioning and
practice hard,” Featherstone said.
Despite its dominance through the
first three games, there is always room
for improvement, especially as the season
goes on.
“We need to get better on both sides
of the ball and the offense, defense,
and special team’s has been constant,”
Featherstone said.
The Warriors gained 602 yards of offense,
with 284 coming on the ground and 318 through
the air.
Running back Ken Ashley led the
offense side with 74 yards and 11 carries
and three touchdown runs.
Quarterback Matt Simms completed 20 of 25 pass attempts
for 308 passing yards and two touchdowns.
The Warriors led 28-0 after one quarter
On defense, cornerback Mike Harris
had two interceptions and
returned one for a 23-yard touchdown score
and defensive linemen Daniel Stewart
had two sacks and a fumble recovery and
linebacker Dionte Brooks had four sacks
On special teams, place kicker Stephen
Locke connected on all three of his field goals and is a perfect 6 for 6 this season.
The team was proud of its win
and effort against Compton.
“Anytime you can start 3-0 you
have to be very pleased about the start,”
Featherstone said
