A record of two wins and one
defeat caps off last weeks two-day
double header for the women’s wa-
ter polo team.
“It was tough,” coach Corey
Stanbury said while describing the
game against Pasadena City last
Wednesday. The women suffered
an 8-2 loss against their conference
rivals at this away game.
“They are strong and that’s how
it goes,” Stanbury said. The team
went back and forth against Pasa-
dena City last season, and this sea-
son looks like it will follow that
trend.
Next up for EC was a mini tour-
nament at home against L.A. Valley
and Santa Monica.
“It went really well,” Stanbury
said, describing the first game of the
day against fellow South Coast Con-
ference team L.A. Valley. EC won
the game 14-9, a much stronger win
than their first of 12-10 last week.
“As a group, we worked very well
together,” Stanbury said.
Freshman Margaret Drischler
scored four goals and sophomore
Erica Shaw scored six.
“We were strong inside as well as
outside,” Stanbury said. He said that
the women maintained control of
the pool as well as the ball.
In addition, the team made many
steals against L.A. Valley. Almost
every starter made at least one steal
Stanbury said, with players Chloe
Rodriguez, Katelynn Sloss, and
Shaw making multiple ones.
Also stepping up at this tourna-
ment was new goalkeeper Amanda
Atkins, who made one save against
L.A. Valley, and Alexandra Stumpf,
who also made one save.
Stanbury said even though they
are both new, they are already a vital
part of the team.
“We were good and the game
went pretty well,” Stumpf said about
the game against L.A. Valley.
“We were much better towards
the end,” Atkins said.
After one win of the day, EC was
up against Santa Monica, a team
which EC defeated during the 2008
season. The game was close, but EC
took the win with a score of 10-9.
Stumpf made six saves during the
game. Shaw made four steals and
four goals.
“It was really good overall and we
played well,” Stanbury said about the
day as a whole.
Next up for EC is a home game
against conference rivals Cerri-
tos College. The 2008 season held
a tough loss against Cerritos, but
hopefully they will take home a vic-
tory this season.
