The Warriors continue their early season success as they dominate another team and beat the Compton Tartars 57-0 in Compton on Sept. 19 The win moved the team up to No.1 in the nation after their latest win against Compton.
“Being No. 1 doesn’t mean anything, unless you win your games,” coach John Featherstone said.
The Warriors next game is Saturday against Bakersfield College at 6p.m. at Murdock Stadium. The Renegades come into this weekend game ranked No.7 in the nation.
“We understand how important this game is and we need to be ready for a 60 minute football game against Bakersfield College,” Featherstone said.
The Warriors through three games have outscored L.A. Southwest, Long Beach City, and Compton College 168-32. The team hasn’t been challenged yet this season as they have been dominating all three of their opponent’s from start to finish.
” No, the team hasn’t been challenged for four quarters this season,” Featherstone said.
Coach Featherstone is proud of his team’s play through the first three games of the season.
“We have played hard the first three games and had other player’s have playing time and the team has alot of enthusiasm each game,” Featherstone said.
The team is prepared for every game and they goe through their weekly routine to get there.
“We are well prepared for every game and work hard on conditioning and practice hard,” Featherstone said.
Despite their dominance through the first three games, there is always room for improvement especially as the season goes on.
“We need to get better on both sides of the ball and the offense, defense, and special team’s has been constant,” Featherstone said.
The Warriors had 602 yards of offense, including 284 on the ground and 318 on the air. RB/TB Ken Ashley led the offense side with 74 yards and 11 carries and three touchdown runs and QB Matt Simms went 20-25 for 308 passing yards and two touchdown score’s and OT Joey Esposito and OL Chris De Armas where good 90 percent of the time on offense and had six great tackles.
On defense, CB Mike Harris had two interceptions and one was returned for touchdown and DL Daniel Stewart had two sacks and a fumble recovery and LB Dionte Brooks had four sacks
On special teams, PK Stephen Locke was 3/3 on FG in the Compton game and he’s 6/6 on FG this season.
The team was very proud of their win and effort against Compton College in Compton this past Saturday.
“Anytime you can start 3-0 you have to be very pleased about the start,” Featherstone said.
“Think it was a good win and everybody got to play and it was a good win for the team,” TE Joe Don Duncan said.
“We where well prepared and executed well on offense, defense, and special team’s and the sophomore stepped it up especially Harris and we got a big help from the special team’s,” Harris said.
