Students attending Club Rush from March 2-5 will be happy to find that it has been revamped, according to Walter Mendez, Inter-Club Council president.
“I feel that exposing students to clubs is great, but I want to expose them to more of what El Camino has to offer,” Mendez said.
Club Rush will be held on the library lawn from 10 a.m. to 2p.m.; in addition to clubs, organizations on campus will be present.
“I’m the type of person that wouldn’t want to be biased and show just one side, like clubs” Mendez said. “If students have more options, they are more likely to find what they’re interested in.”
According to Mendez, some of the organizations included are the Myriad, student creative arts journal and the pep squad. U.S. Army will also have a booth and they will have their army-generated games.
“This semester’s Club Rush is going to be even more interactive and about the community and bringing everyone together,” Mendez said. “That is what we try to achieve with ICC”
ICC hopes that students will take advantage of this opportunity to find out more about the clubs.
“Joining a club is a way to meet other students and faculty members and to be more involved with campus life,” Janice Watanabe, ICC adviser said, “It can be an enriching and rewarding experience.”
Mendez said that joining a club makes students’ experience a lot better and what they have to gain from clubs is a sense of belonging and pride in their interests.
“Half of the learning you receive is from your peers and I feel that when you’re in a club, you are exposed to even more of that,” Mendez said.
In addition, Mendez said that ICC is going to present some new clubs, including the Graphic Design Club, Vision 218 and the Veteran’s Club. Aside from clubs, the ICC cabinet will be there signing up blood donors for its upcoming American Red Cross Bloodmobile March 24-26.
“Just go out there during Club Rush and give it a try. Ask questions; you’re not going to be forced to join any clubs,” Mendez said. “Go out there and see what interests you; you have nothing to lose.”
