Kimberly Davis is the vice president of the African-American Student Society.
What is the African-American Student Society?
It is basically a club to inform students on historical facts, political issues and the club also helps us to uplift each other and inform students of up and coming events.
Why is the club important?
Our club is important because people need to know historical facts. Most people only know historical facts about Malcolm X or Martin Luther King Jr. when there are so many more like Marcus Garvey. We are trying to teach people to think outside the box and we are trying to make it more diverse.
What are the goals for the club?
We want to help people be successful in their goals for school and inspire others to become positive role models in society.
What are your personal goals for the club?
I want to welcome more people to the club and keep people interested. I want to spread the word and I would like to work with other clubs like the Native American club, to study our history.
How can students become more involved with the club?
The club is open to anyone interested. We have meetings every Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. in Room 212 of the Social Sciences Building. We have no time limit, so (students may still join the club).
Are there any club requirements?
We only ask for a $20 club fee and (we ask that people come open-minded).
What are your duties as vice president of the club?
My job is to assist the president, keep documented records and to (organize) officers to discuss next meetings. I am also the treasurer.
