Students find other alternatives for daily energy

Late night study sessions and cramming for exams while balancing work might take its toll on college students.

While many students opt for coffee to get their caffeine fix, others rely on energy drinks to keep them energized throughout their day.

With so many energy drinks available;  Red Bull, Monster, Full Throttle and Rockstar are some of the most popular among college students.

If you like simple and sweet, Red Bull would be a great choice. Available in three sizes ranging from $2.49- $4.99, Red Bull’s ingredients include Taurine, B vitamin’s and most importantly, containing 80 mg of caffeine in an 8.46 oz can. Except for literally giving you wings, this drink provides the consumer with a great boost of energy and doesn’t leave a sour after taste.

Rockstar and Monster are both similar in taste and were in the same price range of $1.99 for a 16.oz .  Similar to a fruit like, citrus flavor, these products had a great taste and for their size, the pricing was very reasonable. Both drinks have 160 mg of caffeine per 16 oz can.Rockstar however, included the ingredient milk thistle which is said to help detoxify the liver to help with hangovers.

Among them, the Coca-Cola Co. product, Full Throttle would have to be the least satisfying to ones pallet. With a few similar ingredients to its competitors, ginseng and guarana extracts and B-vitamins, it contains 72 mg of caffeine per 8oz serving.  The taste wasn’t too pleasant and there was nothing about it that stands out from the rest.

Whichever energy drink students prefer to drink lets remember that consuming them should be done in moderation due to its high levels of caffeine.
