EC women's volleyball team's 16-game streak snapped in regional finals

The EC women’s volleyball team won one set off of Irvine Valley College on Tuesday Night in the regional championship match at Irvine Valley.

The victory was the highlight of the night for the Warriors as they handed the Lasers their first set loss playing at home all year.

The team was otherwise outplayed by Irvine Valley, as they would lose the match 3-1.

“I was glad to see the team stick together,” coach Le Valley Pattison said. “They kept trying, kept trying to make things happen. But, that’s a good team, they haven’t lost a game at home all year.”

The Warriors (24-3) were handed their first loss since back-to-back losses to Cypress College in October which ended a 16-game win streak.

“I give our team a lot of credit,” Pattison said. “To take a game off them, sometimes we’d play right there with them, but then we’d have too many unforced errors.”

After finishing the year as the No. 4 team in the south, the team’s only losses game to the No. 1 and No. 3 teams in the south.

“This team was solid,” Pattison said. “We had used seven or eight players all year. Everyone stayed healthy and played hard. They should be proud.”

Sophomore outside hitter Darlene Lee lead the team with 14 kills on the night. She also managed to get 28 digs as well.
