The EC men’s soccer team (5-1-4, 3-1) came from behind to overcome a one-goal deficit and earn a 2-1 victory at home versus Long Beach City College (2-4-4, 0-3-1) last Friday.

A goal from sophomore forward Andy Nuñez in the 21st minute followed by a second from freshman midfielder Emmanuel Coronain in the 48th clinched the win for the Warriors, their third in a row. EC now sits second in the South Coast Conference behind only Mt. San Antonio College (7-1-3, 3-1).

Nuñez now leads the team in goals scored this season with five goals.

Long Beach took an early lead in the seventh minute after a through ball from the right wing exposed the Warriors’ defense to make it 1-0.

EC battled back quickly when freshman forward Carlos Perez worked his way up the right wing and passed to Núñez who had only the keeper to beat to tie the game, 1-1.

The Warriors’ breakthrough came early in the second half when EC earned a corner kick. Freshman defender Edgar Esquivel’s cross into the penalty box met Coronain’s head and ball went into the net to make the score, 2-1.

This game continued the Warriors’ habit of consistently conceding early goals. They’ve been scored on in the first 20 minutes in five games this season.

The offense however, has responded well and they’ve come from behind to earn at least a draw in four of those five matches.

EC’s next match will be away to LA Harbor on Today at 4 p.m.
