Convincing win for the men’s volleyball team
One good block is not enough to pump fans up, but two blocks is, and both Casey Wood and Nehemiah Iosia did not fail to give what the fans wanted in the last set. Blocks everywhere! Nothing seemed to go through the Warriors’ defense on Friday night.
The El Camino Men’s volleyball team extended their winning streak as they defeated L.A. Pierce on Friday night and our now 7-0 in the league.
With a great performance from the whole team, the game ended earlier than usual as the Warriors won 3-0.
“We worked together, we just played with a high energy,” sophomore Roy Powell said. “We didn’t make a lot of mistakes.”
Powell had yet another great night as he led with 15 kills in the game. Brandon Hiehle and Nehemiah Iosia followed by contributing with 10 kills respectively.
According to Powell, there is still a lot of work to be done, and the teams they face next will not be easy rivals, so it is important for them to play great defense.
Throughout the game the Warriors were determined to limit their errors and played great defense, which made it easy for them to win three sets convincingly by 25-21, 25-19, and 25-12.
“We limited our errors,” sophomore Brandon Hiehle said. “Lately we’ve been working really hard at the defense since one of our biggest weakness is playing defense.”
Hiehle contributed with 10 kills and 4 digs on Friday night as he also had a great night.
According to Coach Richard Blount, the first and second game between the Warriors and L.A. Pierce, were totally different games. Not only was Pierce missing a key player due to an injury, but the Warriors also recovered Casey Wood, who had a great night defensively.
“Casey didn’t play at all against that team (the first game),” Blount said. “He had a huge block. Changed the game, and it frustrates the other team dramatically.”
Coach Blount is now looking ahead and knows that it will be a much more tougher
month for the Warriors.
“We’re trying to get better,” Blount said. “I’m pushing them harder than I normally would everyday. I’m screaming over dumb stuff to make them better.”
EC has a complicated upcoming game against Santa Monica College on Wednesday and will look to keep their perfect record and extend it to eight consecutive wins.
“I told them 7-0 feels good,” Blount said. “But 8-0 feels better.”
“Its all up to us really. Its up to how hard we practice. How hard we push ourselves,” freshmen Kenninson Rowe said. “We could be a State Champ. We could lose in the first round. Who knows? It’s up to us.”
