The women’s tennis team played against their conference rivals, Long Beach, winning 9-0 on March 6.
“I felt really confident during both of my sets,” Chun Young Shin, freshman, said.
I want to win for the team, because the team comes first, Shin said after winning both of her sets, (6-0) (6-0).
Even though this is Shin’s first semester here at El Camino, she is doing an “excellent job,” Steve Van Kanegan, coach, said.
Jillian Dineros, sophomore, won both of her sets, (6-2) (6-0).
“They are capable of reaching our goal, that is the conference championship. I want them to play greedy,” Kanegan said.
The Warriors played Mt San Antonio at their home on March 8 and couldn’t take the victory home as they lost 8-1.
Meanwhile, the men’s tennis team obtained an important victory against their conference competitors 8-1.
“The games were really competitive. We are trying to get better every day,” Robert Estrada, assistant coach, said.
“The score made it look like an easy game, but it wasn’t. We are learning from our daily adversities” Attila Lassu, sophomore, said after winning his sets, (6-2) (6-1).
Jonathan Cipiti, sophomore, did not see action during the game due to a shoulder injury, but he expects to be back to the courts for the next game to help his team.
“We are doing a good job, but we have to improve little things” Robert said.
He added that they have to work on ”putting away” games when they are ahead.
The men’s tennis team is set to play on Wednesday, March 21 against Mt. San Jacinto College. The women’s team will be competing on Thursday, March 15 at Orange Coast College.
