Surrounded by raucous friends and family, the Warriors breezed through the El Camino Classic at home last Friday.
In their first match, the Warriors defeated the Ventura Pirates, 25-6, 25-9 and 25-11. They completed the sweep with a victory over College of the Canyons, 25-23 25-9 and 25-11.
Up next will be the San Diego Mesa Tournament which will begin tommorrow and conclude Saturday.
The Warriors turned up the heat after game 1 against College of The Canyons was tied 18-18, 21-21, and 23-23.
“It was amazing. We came out with fire wanting to win and I think it definitely helped that a lot of fans came to support us,” Donella DiDomenico, sophomore libero, said.
“They are playing better. There were some really good teams in this tournament and I think the women were ready to show off in their first match at home,” Le Valley Pattison, volleyball coach, said.
Leading the way for the Warriors was freshman middle Lauren Edwards, with 26 kills and 4 blocks.
“Lauren was her normal threat up at the net,” Ashleigh Gideon, sophomore captain, said.
Outside hitters Kaitlyn Edwards pounded 18 kills and Gideon had 16 kills and 24 digs.
DiDomenico led the team with 25 digs.
With these recent victories, the Warriors improved their record to 5-1 before heading out to San Diego Friday and Saturday for the San Diego Mesa Tournament.
“Before heading out to San Diego this weekend we need to work a lot on playing together as a team,” Gideon said. “We are all great individual players but sometimes we forget there are another five girls on the court.”
The team is determined to win it all. “We all want to get back to the state championship,” DiDomenico said. I can’t wait until the sophomore’s leadership and freshmen’s motivation helps us get to that last game.
