After a slim lead at the half, the women’s basketball team rose to the occasion on defense last Saturday to beat Cuyamaca College 75-42 in the season opener.
The team will have a long break until its next game, which is the Glendale Tournament on Nov. 20 through Nov. 22.
“Team wise, the biggest difference was our defensive focus. We were a little excited to finally be out there to play so in the second half we made our adjustments on defense,” coach Steve Shaw said.
The defense allowed 30 points in the first half and then locked down to only allow 12 points in the second half.
The defense was so good that it didn’t allow its opponent to score for the first ten and a half minutes in the second half.
The offense wasn’t too shabby either, as they scored 75 points and moved the ball around well, getting a lot of assists.
“I always look at the number of assists because it shows how well we are running our offense. When our assists are up, our offense is doing well and we had 24 assists on the night,” coach Shaw said.
“We ran our offense well for our first game, and I thought we shot the ball well,” Shaw said.
