After El Camino’s loss two weeks ago to Pasadena, new polls have come out and EC has dropped to No.2 in California for the first time this season.
The Warriors 33 match-winning streak in the regular season was snapped by Pasadena and has dropped to No. 2, while Pasadena shot up three spots to claim the No. 3 spot.
“It obviously upsets us but we are happy it happened now and not the first game in state. We now know our weaknesses and are working very hard to better them,” Kiley Tamblyn said. ” In a way this loss is making us stronger.”
The loss knocked the Warriors down a notch, but for the long run of the season it was for the better
“I think we just realized that we are going to have to compete harder and expect the win less,” Amanda Rico said.
“In practice we went back to basics and it helped us reduce the amount of errors we were making in our games. It has really helped us this week.”
The Warriors played Mt. Sac last Wednesday and swept the Mounties winning 25-23, 25-16, 28-26.
“We came out a little tense after losing our game on Friday, but our desire to win came over us and we fought and battled for our win,” Donella DiDomenico said.
The Warriors were led by Yacine Meyer, Sarah Prather and Deja Dickerson. Meyer totaled up 10 kills and eight digs, Prather had nine kills and 10 digs and Dickerson added another eight kills.
Prather returned to action after being out the last couple weeks with a knee injury. Her return gives the Warriors much needed depth and experience.
“It was great to have Sarah back. She contributes a lot to the team with her hitting and brings the fire to win to the court,” DiDomenico said.
The Warriors faced Los Angeles City last Friday and out scored LACC 75-27. EC swept the Cubs 25-10, 25-5, 25-12.
Ke’ui Remigio had eight kills and Dickerson added seven kills to lead El Camino. The volleyball team increases their record to 18-1 (9-1) with the win over LACC.
“We came in expecting to win, and everyone stepped up their game,” DiDomenico said.
The volleyball team increases their record to 18-1 (9-1).
The Warriors faced Los Angeles Trade Tech at home yesterday and will face Cerritos at home tomorrow. The regular season is winding down as after this week the Warriors will have four games left and only two of those are at home.
The final game of the regular season will be against Pasadena at home on Nov. 18. If both teams are still tied when they meet again for the rematch, then the game will have the No. 1 ranking for conference and possibly state on the line.
“The game against Pasadena at home is going to be our toughest challenge of the season. They beat us once so they expect to beat us again. We just need to come out ready and play our game,” DiDomenico said.
