In case you didn’t know El Camino girl’s volleyball has won four state championships and two under current coach Le Valley Pattison.
In the Pattison era, the Warriors have won ten conference championships and eight straight. On top of that the ladies have had eight state tournament appearances while winning the last two.
The Lady Warriors will have a fairly young roster after losing some key players from last year’s championship team.
“We lost some impact players, but I feel we have a solid group of freshman who can make an impact,” coach Pattison said.
The Warriors will look to Ashleigh Gideon, Donella DiDomenico, Ke’ui Remigio, Kayelani Tanuvasa, and Amanda Rico-Hentila to be fill those holes.
” If we have better middle blocker play and better sets we should be very good,” coach Pattison said.
Deja Dickerson and Courtney Wilson will provide the middle blocking presence as Kiley Tamblyn solidifies the middle of the court with her energy and leadership. Sarah Prather, a transfer from the University of Hawaii, will be a key outside hitter.
The ladies started their title defense at Fullerton College winning 25-19, 26-24 and 27-25.
” Nerves played a big part in our first game, but I’m happy we worked through it,” coach Pattison said.
In their second game of the season the Warriors battled against Cypress College at home on Wednesday winning 25-18, 25-20, 26-28 and 27-25.
Sarah Prather racked up 19 kills and 9 digs, while Ashleigh Gideon accounted for 11 kills and 17 Digs. Kiley Tamblyn held down the middle of the court with an amazing 37 digs.
The defense really came up big with some key digs to help out the offense, which isn’t hitting on all cylinders yet.
“We need to communicate more and capitalize on the offense to put the ball away when we have chances,” Sarah Prather said.
The defense will be a big part of the Warriors success this year, but the team’s chemistry will also be a huge factor.
” This is probably the closest team I’ve ever been on. We are always together and shows on the court,” Sarah Prather said.
The three peat looks to be off to a good start, but anything can happen in the course of a season.
” It’s tough to say, every team has it’s own path,” coach Pattison said.
