Men and women swimmers win against Pasadena

Having more swimmers was an advantage against Pasadena City College for the women’s swimming team, but it will face the same disadvantage in its next meet.

Starting tomorrow, the Warriors will compete in the Mt. SAC Invitational with competition wrapping up on Saturday.

“Most of the teams in Southern California will be there, so I’m excited about it,” coach Corey Stanbury said.

With the large amount of teams competing at the meet, Southern California’s most outstanding swimmers will be there.

“The best swimmers are going to swim head to head against each other and I want see how well the women are going to do,” Stanbury said.

EC demonstrated the potential it has in its swimmers this year when, in an easy victory against Pasadena City College, the Warriors won, 84-41.

“We won very easily and did pretty well with some of us not being in our top condition,” Melanie Jordan said.

The men will compete at the Mt. SAC Invitational, which starts tomorrow and will continue on through Saturday.

“It’s going to be a fun meet because there is going to be a lot of teams competing,” Matt Pifer said. “We want to see how we do against a wide group of people.”

Stanbury is looking forward to the meet and is confident that his team is ready for the level of competition at the meets.

“There is going to be a lot of good competition there; It’s what we need, we are going to put our nose to the grindstone and go for it,” Stanbury said.

In addition to a good performance from the team, Stanbury is looking for individual solid performances.

“I’m looking for all of the swimmers to improve on their times and to score very well in Mt. SAC,” Stanbury said.

Two weeks ago, the Warriors defeated Pasadena College, 78-48.

“It was a pretty close meet until the we picked up steam and did really good in the back half of the meet,” Stanbury said.

“We should finish in the top four in conference. It’s even among us, Mt. SAC and Cerritos but Long Beach City might be too much to overcome since they are so big,” Stanbury said.
