Off to a slow start early into the season, the men’s basketball team is looking for victories in order to get ready for conference games.
The Warriors (2-5) game against West L.A. was canceled yesterday due to a power shortage on the campus of West L.A.; it is not know if the game will be reschedule.
“It’s upsetting the game was canceled because the players worked hard in practice to prepare for this game,” assistant coach Barry Levy said.
The next game is tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at EC’s North Gym, where the men will host L.A. City, a team that is usually one of the best in the state.
“We have to play hard against L.A City because they are a good shooting team,” guard Robson Dufau said. “It will be a good game to win because they are such a well- respected team.”
Ready for a road trip
Wednesday, the Warriors will travel to play the Cypress Chargers before getting ready for the L.A. Southwest Tournament.
The games will be from Dec. 9-11 at a time that’s to be determined.
“It’s going to be a good tournament because it always has good teams in it,” center Michael Banks said. “The tournament is usually a preview of who has a chance at winning the (South Coast) conference.
Starting the Dec. 17, the team will participate in the Golden West Tournament, the fourth tournament the team will play this season, which ends on Dec. 19. Game times for the tournament are still to be determined.
Earlier tournaments
In an earlier tournament this season, the Warriors won one game but lost two at Fullerton that was played on Nov. 18-20.
In the first game of the tournament, the team lost to Fullerton, 63-48 in a game the players felt they could have won.
“Fullerton was a very good team, but we did not execute as well as we should have and it ended up costing us the game,” Banks said.
The second game was a victory over Pasadena City 87-78, where the players found confidence in their game.
“We all came out and played hard and showed how good we can be when we come out and play as a team,” Dufau said.
Antelope Valley handed the team its second loss of the tournament 91-68, in a game where the players had trouble keeping up with the good shooting opponent.
“We just made too many mistakes and they just shot us out, they were a good shooting team,” Banks said.
