It only took one bad inning for the Warriors to lose 5-1 Tuesday against Long Beach City in their last game of the season.
EC ended its season with an overall record of 8-20 and a conference record of 1-10, making it the team with the second-to-worst record in the South Coast Conference. The team finished only ahead of East L.A., who has one more defeat and two less overall wins.
Despite the win, Long Beach came in fourth and will also miss the playoffs. For EC, this is the third consecutive year that it miss its chance at playoffs.
Once again, the team fell behind late in the game during the fifth inning and was unable to mount a comeback.
“We played a very good game,” Brittany Lina said. “They managed to get a few hits but they weren’t really good hits.”
All season, the team has struggled with putting together a good defense along with solid offense. Mental errors like those in the fifth inning and insufficient hits are the main reason the team won’t be saying hello to the postseason. The Vikings held EC to only one run and four hits throughout the game.
Yet, with all the negative results, the season isn’t seen as a failure. The team did find some positives.
“I had a lot of fun playing on the team,” Lina said, “And I’m pretty sure everybody else on the team had fun too.”
“I just thought we were going to do better during the season, but we didn’t and that’s too bad,” Lina said.
What to expect for next season is not very clear. There are three sophomores who aren’t eligible to play next season.
“I don’t plan to come back for next season,” Lina said, “I don’t know about my teammates.”
