Police Beat Nov. 17 – Nov. 22
El Camino College
Nov. 16, 1:19 a.m. A woman who was stopped in a red zone in the 16700 block of Crenshaw Boulevard was issued a citation for driving without a drivers license. According to the report, the officer allowed the passenger with a valid license to drive.
Nov. 17, 10 a.m. A female student had her cell phone stolen after she left it on the library reserve book desk. According to the report, the student said she got distracted while sorting through items in her backpack. Once she was finished, she realized that her cell phone was gone.
Nov. 17, 12:18 p.m. An officer driving into the police station noticed a man on foot following his patrol car into the secure parking area. According to the report, the officer made contact with the man and the man told the officer that he wanted to turn himself in because Gardena Police was looking for him. The man, who is not a student, had two felony warrants for drug possession from Gardena. Gardena police told ECPD to write the man a citation for his warrants. The man also told the officer that he had needles in his heart and he felt there were holes in his head. Officers placed the man into protective custody and transported him to a local hospital for a psychological evaluation.
Nov. 17, 2:40 p.m. A student was having severe abdominal pains while in a class in the MBA Building. Officers called for paramedics and paramedics transported the student to an area hospital.
Nov. 18, 3 p.m. A student reported a theft at the police station. According to the report, the student told the officer that he was sitting in his parked car in Lot L with his seat reclined and the windows down. The student had his cell phone on his chest and said that felt someone reach into his car and grab his phone. The student opened his eyes and saw a man grab his phone and run into a vehicle parked nearby. The student said that the man drove onto Crenshaw Boulevard and drove southbound.
Nov. 19, 1:56 p.m. A student reported a theft at the police station. The student told the officer that someone stole his cell phone from his backpack that was left unattended on the floor in his weight lifting class.
Nov. 19, 6 p.m. Two students were cited for drinking in public and for being in possession of vandalism tools after officers responded to a call that the vehicle they were in was leaking an unknown fluid Lot H. When officers arrived they observed a six pack of beer on the floor board inside the vehicle. The students told the officers that they were drinking because they were waiting to go to a speech presentation on campus. Upon further investigation, officers also located six can of spray paint inside one of the students backpack. Both of the students admitted to being taggers, but they only tag in San Pedro.
Nov. 20 12:17 p.m. A student had her cell phone stolen from the second floor Humanities Building women’s restroom. According to the report, the student told the officer that she placed her phone on a counter in the restroom and left. When she realized 30 minutes later that she didn’t have her phone, she went back to the restroom and couldn’t locate her cell phone.
Gardena
Nov. 21, 10:39 p.m. A vehicle in the 15700 block of Western Avenue was burglarized by unknown persons.
Nov. 22, 6:45 p.m. Unknown persons cut a hole into a vehicle in the 15500 block of Atkinson Avenue and stole clothing and wigs.
Torrance
Nov. 17, 12:15 p.m. An unknown person damaged a door lock on a vehicle in the 3500 block of 171st Street.
