Police Beat June 8 – June 12
June 8, 4:06 p.m. An officer responded to the police lobby for a hit-and-run report. According to the report, the female student said that she parked her car in lot H and discovered a scratch on her rear bumper after leaving campus. A report was taken.
June 8, 10:30 p.m. Officers responded to the area of the Technical Arts building for a suspicious person. According to the report, a male non-student was seen carrying a long yellow stick and yelling at people. Officers contacted the man and discovered that he had two warrants totaling $45,000. The man was arrested for his outstanding warrants and booked at Torrance Police. A report was taken.
June 10, 2:21 p.m. An officer was flagged down by a male outside the KFC across the street from lot L. According to the report, the male non-student told the officer that another man had just stolen his wallet that he left inside the KFC. Other officers responded to the area to search for the man and found him. The victim positively identified the man who stole his wallet. An officer found the victims wallet at a near by business. The suspect, who was not an El Camino student, was taken to the El Camino police station and later released with a notice to appear in court. A report was taken.
June 11, 8:30 p.m. An officer saw a man jaywalking across Crenshaw Boulevard in front of the Child Development Center. According to the report, the officer made contact with the man and discovered that he had a $2,000 traffic warrant out of Hawthorne Police. The officer issued the man a citation for his outstanding warrant and released him. A report was taken.
June 12, 11:10 a.m. Officers observed a male walking on the peripheral road in lot A, pushing a baby stroller and drinking a beer. According to the report, officers contacted the man who was a non-student and discovered that the man had a $50,000 warrant out of Torrance for being drunk in public. The man was issued a citation for the warrant and was released. A report was taken.
June 12, 10:05 p.m. An officer made a traffic stop on a vehicle with a broken headlight in the 3600 block of Manhattan Beach Blvd. According to the report, the driver, a male non-student did not have a drivers license. The officer told the man to leave his vehicle at the location and was issued a citation.
June 12 10:50 p.m. Officers observed a man staggering as he walked on the sidewalk in the 15600 block of Crenshaw Blvd. According to the report, the man, a non-student was in possession of an open can of beer and was under the influence of alcohol. The man was having difficulty standing and officers determined that the man was unable to take care of himself. He was arrested for being drunk in public and transported to Torrance Police for booking. A report was taken.
