Pro: Do extreme makeovers alleviate insecurities?
Extreme makeovers provide a solution for people who have given up on themselves.
For people who have self-respect and confidence, it’s often difficult to understand why someone would audition for shows such as “The Swan” and “Extreme Makeover.” However, for some participants, it wasn’t a difficult decision; after years of neglect, they had become extreme cases.
Many critics would argue that beauty doesn’t necessarily make you happy, which is true, but gaining confidence is a step, not an ending.
These shows provide an opportunity for people who couldn’t otherwise afford such procedures.
It is easy for some people to criticize those who undergo extreme makeovers because some feel they’re being petty, but they don’t understand it unless they’re in someone else’s shoes. Those who go on are often emotionally scarred, lacking self- confidence, depressed and sometimes suicidal, which has contributed to their fading looks.
“Extreme Makeover” contestant, Rachel Love-Fraser said, in an interview with People magazine, “I’d pick myself apart in front of the mirror, and I don’t anymore. I’m happy about who I am, finally.”
“The Swan” also provides counseling to the participants in order to give them an emotional makeover as well.
The show helps people who no longer know how to help themselves and are desperate for guidance.
No one should deny a person the second chance to better themselves.
