With gravity as the focus, students and presenters came together as the Planetarium at EC hosted its first show of the semester on Sunday.
The show started with a talk about Isaac Newton, the man who discovered gravity and then switched to Albert Einstein, who in 1905 made a prediction that something called gravitational waves will be discovered someday.
On September 15, 2015, the gravitational waves were finally discovered by LIGO, which is an antennae that detects gravitational waves.
Gravitational waves are distortions or “ripples” in the fabric of space-time that is caused by some of the most violent and energetic processes in the universe, according to LIGO Caltech.
The show then went on to show stars through a special telescope. At the end of the show, there was a Q&A with Astronomy professors Susan Stolovy and Shimonee Kadakia.
“I liked it. It was very informative and educational,” Giovanni Bush, Astronomy major, said.
The next Planetarium show will be on March 11 at 8 pm.
