Strategies and ideas to help keep faculty and students safe were the focus at the Academic Senate meeting on Tuesday.
For two years campus safety issues have been a constant topic. Since the recent student threats on campus and nationwide, it was time for the senate to bring this to attention.
Kristie Daniel DiGergorio, vice president of Faculty Development, brought three points to the table to help faculty respond to an emergency: communication, classroom security and training.
“The FDC felt really strongly (enough) to bring this subject to the Academic Senate as a way of raising concerns that we are hearing from our constituents that may not seem as a professional development issue,” DiGergorio said. “But the overwhelming anxiety that some of our colleagues are feeling given the circumstances in their classrooms is stopping them from being present as educators.”
The next Academic Senate Meeting is March 1 in the Alondra Room at 12:30 p.m.
