A two-car traffic collision briefly shut down the southbound lanes of Crenshaw Boulevard this morning during the first day of fall semester rush.

The collision involved a gray sedan and red Chevy compact that collided in front of the Administration Building on Crenshaw Boulevard.

El Camino police officers and L.A. County fire paramedics quickly responded to the scene.

According to an eyewitness, Kevin Caceros, 20, English, who arrived shortly before the incident said the gray sedan was heading southbound on Crenshaw Boulevard when the red Chevy, heading northbound on Crenshaw Boulevard, attempted to make a left turn, or u-turn.

“A lot of people are rushing on the first day of school, especially when they’re waitlisted and trying to get classes,” Caceros said. “But you shouldn’t be rushed. There’s no point in having an accident on the first day of school. It’s bad.”

“Now they (if those involved in the collision were students) won’t get to their classes,” he added.

The gray sedan was facing southeast on Crenshaw Boulevard and received major damage on the front bumper and hood, while the Chevy was facing southbound and had minor damage on the same areas.

It was unknown if any of the parties were EC students or sustained any injuries.

ECPD Chief Michael Trevis was reached via email but said he couldn’t add any further information, because Gardena Police had the handle on this incident.
