El Camino student fatally shot in Gardena
An El Camino student was shot and killed in his car, two miles away from the campus, on Friday afternoon, authorities said.
At 1:24 p.m. in the 13400 block of Crenshaw Boulevard, a shots-fired call was made to authorities, Lt. Russ Temple of the Gardena Police Department, said.
After police arrived on scene, they found Kody Ryan Cook, an El Camino student, in his gray BMW backed into a parking space at a Baskin-Robbins location, Kelly, a family friend who declined to give her last name, said.
Unknown suspects approached his gray BMW on foot and open fired into his car, Temple said.
Upon arrival of L.A. County Fire paramedics the victim was declared “dead on scene,” Temple said.
Cook was 18 and started at El Camino in the spring of 2014 and was studying psychology, Javon Bryant, an EC film student and friend of the victim, said.
Cook’s stage name was “Lecturre” and the two were part of a music group called “Political Zoo” and have been making music together since 2013, Bryant said.
“His dream was to be a rapper,” Kelly said. “His group was just getting off the ground going.”
Temple said that the investigation is ongoing and that anyone with information should contact Gardena Police Department at 310-217-9670.
