Police Beat, Feb. 5-13
Update: Minor changes have been made at 10:52 p.m.
Feb. 5, 11:08 a.m. – Police stopped a subject a male subject, who was not a student, who had dropped off his girlfriend when an officer smelled marijuana coming out of his car. The subject was pulled over on suspicion. When officers searched the vehicle they located a jar full of marijuana in the floorboard and a loaded .32-caliber revolver in the trunk. The subject was arrested for possession of a loaded firearm, marijuana and he had a traffic warrant. The subject was later transferred and booked at the Torrance Police Department.
Feb. 9, 4:11 p.m. – Officers responded to Lot L regarding a non-student male following a female. The subject only spoke Spanish and officers waited for a Spanish speaking officer to arrive and translate. The man was mumbling incoherently and later said that Spider-Man told him to follow females. The subject was taken into protective custody and then transferred to Harbor General Hospital for a 72-hour psych elevation.
Feb. 9, 4:15 p.m. – Officers responded to the police lobby regarding a hit-and-run collision report. A car collided into a female student’s rear bumper and fled the scene. The student’s car bumper contained moderate damage.
Feb. 9, 4:35 p.m. – Officers responded to a call about an argument between a male and a female on the north side of Manhattan Beach Boulevard. The woman was trying to break up with the male and he got upset. ECPD controlled the situation and then waited for the Sheriff’s Department to arrive and handle the call.
Feb. 10, 10:30 a.m. – Officers responded to a medical-aid call on the athletic field. A male student playing soccer complained of sharp pain in his leg. Paramedics were called and then treated the student. The student refused to be transported to the local hospital.
Feb. 11, 10:15 a.m. – Officers responded to the police lobby regarding criminal threats made by a male student to a female student after she declined to go out on a date with him. The two students shared a class for one semester and the female student did not want to take criminal action as the threats were made out of frustration.
Feb. 11, 11 a.m. – Officers conducted direct enforcement of skateboard violations on campus. Police issued approximately 20 citations to students who where riding skateboards.
Feb. 11, 11 a.m. – A male student riding a skateboard was arrested after he failed to comply with officers. The student refused to give an officer his student ID so he could issue a citation. The subject was arrested for failing to comply with an officer’s instructions. The subject was later handed over to Torrance Police Department and was booked.
Feb. 11, 3:40 p.m. – Officers responded to medical aid call on the athletic field after male student injured his right knee during a P.E. class. Paramedics were called and then they transferred the student to an area hospital.
Feb. 11, 5:30 p.m. – Officers responded to a reckless driving call. A female driver ran through a red light on Redondo Beach Boulevard and did not comply with officers to pull over. ECPD pursued the driver and later backed off due to safety concerns. Police did ID the driver when they ran her license plate to find out that she had a felony no-bail warrant out for her arrest due to elder abuse.
Feb. 13, 12:30 p.m. – Officers responded to a call in Lot A due to a non-student male following female students. When officers asked why he was following the students he said because she was a beautiful person. The man did not meet the criteria for a 72-hour psych evaluation. Instead officers called his mother to come pick him up.
Feb. 13, 2:20 p.m. – Officers responded to a call regarding a non-student transient male suspect lurking in the bushes on the south side of the campus. Officers found a glass smoking pipe and a three-inch blade-folding knife on the subject. The male was booked and cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and a weapon.
