Tomorrow night’s homecoming football game, also the final home game of the season, is set to be a very spirited one. With recent ideas surfacing about increasing attendance for this last home game, club support has been a focus when it comes to building the atmosphere for the night.
Athletic Director Randy Totorp had a meeting with Acting Director of Student Development Michelle Arthur and Associated Students Organization (ASO) adviser Breanna Von Stein to discuss ways to promote student attendance at this final game.
Talks about possible club incentives for the club that showed the most school spirit or brought the most students to the game were discussed at an ASO meeting last month.
When discussed to the Inter-Club Council, Von Stein said the group seemed into the idea.
“When we mentioned it at the ICC meetings, everyone seemed excited about it,” Von Stein said. “We’re definitely going to go for it and see what kind of turnout we get.”
The goal, Totorp said, is to create a spirited environment, especially as home games are technically away from campus as Murdock Stadium is being rebuilt for another year.
“We don’t have a student section like you would see at a NCAA school,” Totorp said. “But, if for our homecoming game we were able to get an area that had a lot of students wearing blue, that would stand out. It would be a nice setup at our last home game.”
Sophomore running back Deon Williams knew about the idea and said he looks forward to people coming out.
“You know, it will help get our players into the game and we will have our home crowd behind us,” Williams said. “I think it will help us win.”
Coach John Featherstone added he would love if anyone would “help stir up the attendance.”
The homecoming game will be versus Mt. SAC tomorrow at Redondo Union High School at 4 p.m.
