The Associated Students Organization (ASO) will recognize National Consitution Day to help students learn about the importance of the Constitution in American history from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, on the Schauerman Library lawn.
They will be handing out pocket-sized constitutions and educating the public about the historical document.
“It’s really important we do this,” Rebekka Asher, president of ASO, said. “It is a significant part of our culture.”
Asher said the reason ASO honors Constitution Day every year is because the state government mandates student organizations to participate.
However, she said it’s also a fun way for students to learn.
“Because we receive state funding, we have to celebrate this day on campus and hand out the pocket constitutions,” Asher said. “But a lot of students don’t know or remember what’s in the constitution, so it’s a good way to find out.”
Asher said they will also be reminding students about the ASO constitution.
“Constition day is the best way to promote American History and culture,” Asher said. “If students are interested in ASO, we can promote our organization as well.”
