Dominoes are being slammed, hair is being cut, and cards are being thrown. EC’s Student Activity Center is more than just a place to hang out in between classes, but what exactly is going on behind those glass doors?
While others are sitting in class trying to get through a long day of instructors and homework, the students in the Student Activity Center are having “a blast”, Aidan Jolliff, 19, engineering major, said.
“Whenever I have a break after one of my harder classes I usually end up at the Activity Center to hang out with friends and play card games,” Jolliff said.
One Activity Center local, Celina Rojas, 18, criminal justice major, said that although she enjoys hanging out with her friends at the Activity Center, it can be almost impossible to hear anything considering that the room also holds Dominoes matches.
“The people who play Dominoes are always loud and obnoxious,” Rojas said. “While my friends and I are trying to play a quiet game of Magic, they’re smacking Dominoes on the table and laughing hysterically.”
The students who pass by the Activity Center can’t believe the things that go on in that room.
“Honestly, sometimes I wonder if the students in the Activity Center are even taking classes,”Jones said. “Sometimes they’ll be in there from the time I get to school to the time I get out.”
Also, there have been accounts of student’s cutting each other’s hair and even hooking up their video game console to the televisions inside the Activity Center, He said.
“It’s become a big issue with the school,” Smith , 19, said. “For a while rules were being broken consistently and that’s why now they have installed cameras inside the Student Activity Center.”
