Paying for classes was never so difficult till students were actually dropped from classes after paying for them.
The campus Web Site MyECC is one of the many ways students pay and register for classes every semester, but this spring semester the Web site made things a little more difficult for students.
Without any notifications, students were dropped from classes after they had paid before the payment deadline of February 8, 2010.
This caused many students to be forced to add into extra classes after being dropped, while other student who missed the payment deadline remained enrolled.
“I paid for classes a day after the deadline and I wasn’t dropped”, Daniel Bernstein said. “I guess I was just lucky”. .
Now that students are dealing with the MyECC problems, students are considering that phone registration would be the safest option for future semesters.
“Registering online is easier to do, but if students are being dropped then registering on the phone might be better. You still have no lines to stand in, which is nice” Bernstein said.
However in the mix of the chaos majority of students did see that their school payments had been returned within the first week of classes.
“El Camino dropped me and it took about three days and then I saw that the money had been returned to me” Peter Fuqua said.
However, students such as Noah Ueshima remain in a cautious state concerning MyECC problems and wonder what problems to expect in the future.
“I never had a problem before with MyECC. The whole thing was unexpected” Ueshima said.
No information has been released as to why this problem occurred and the administration has little to no knowledge of why notifications were not sent out after students were dropped
“The college didn’t really follow up with their said deadlines either” Bernstein said. “An e-mail notification wouldn’t have hurt”.
With the large number of student being dropped from their classes, a bigger issue students are now facing is adding into classes on campus.
“I logged on to MyECC and no classes were listed after I paid. I tried adding into classes but I’m still waitlisted” Ueshima, said.
Many students are agreeing that the reason behind being dropped is a lack of communication due to the schools deficient funds and the administrations inability to notify students of their errors.
“Professors should also let people know about the payment deadlines. If [the school] needs the money, then they need it, but they should let students know about the policy” Ueshima said.
