As weeks have gone past since the fall semester has started, student drivers are really getting a feel of how the new parking structure benefits them and what they wish could be a little more better.
The new structure has given students extra space to park and an easier and safer way to park their cars. Students really are enjoying the new parking structure’s distance to and from their classes and the amount of parking availability it has to offer. George, Biology major says, “I think it’s really a good use of El Camino’s money.”
The cost of a daily parking permit has been affordable for most students. Some students prefer buying the parking permit by the semester and some by the day depending on their class schedule.
“I paid my parking permit early in the semester, so it hasn’t been a problem for me,” Vanessa, 30, Child Development.
Entering and exiting the parking structure while driving however, can be a problem for student’s safety. Students have complained about the parking lot’s pathways being to narrow, almost causing accidents every day. Students have to make sure they are driving very slowly when making turns and backing out of the slots because some drivers are not able to see what is around the corner. Another problem is the amount trash seen on the new parking grounds.
“If you stay later in the day, when the cars are leaving, you can see that there is stuff all over,” Kristen Wurlitz, 24, nursing major.
While other students are able to find parking in the evening on weekdays, some students suffer from finding spaces in the morning.
Students also wish the other parking structure stretching between Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach Boulevard was as safe as the new one.
“I think its a lot safer than the open one just cause there always security guard coming around checking to see if students have the proper permit,” Antherice Colomb, 18, International Studies.
Even with such problems the structure has students grateful that EC has used the money to build the new structure.
