With construction going on around campus, students have had to adjust their schedules just to find parking or to get around.
Students, however, are advised not worry because plenty of good news is on the way.
Tom Brown, head of operations for the parking structure project, said many great things are coming along.
“The parking structure will be ready for use by the spring semester,” Brown said.
Because of heavy construction on the new parking lot, other areas will have to be re-arranged as well.
“Due to the construction of the new lot, we will shut the perimeter road next to the Marsee auditorium,” Brown said.
A lot of things must be fixed surrounding the parking structure.
“We know a lot of students will be upset, but they need to realize a lot of things go on with the construction. Things such as storm drains and electricity. I mean, there is lots of stuff going on there,” Brown said.
He warns students of the upcoming inconvienices in advance so that they can make the necessary adjustments.
“Construction on the perimeter will start in October, so for students that have problems parking, they need to come earlier so there won’t be any problems,” Brown said.
The parking structure will be ready for the spring semester, but Brown spoke of another project.
Construction of a new Humanities food plaza will soon be underway.
“This was approved as of last week, and we will be building a food plaza beginning at the end of the year,” he said.
The food plaza will be at the central of the campus near the Humanities Building, the Math and Computer Science Building, the Schauerman Library and the Admissions Office.
“It will be in the center of the campus and it will take maybe about less than a year to build,” Brown said.
With all the construction, Brown urges students to remain patient .
“If you have trouble parking then come to school early to find parking, it’s that simple,” Brown said.
The end result will be a five-story parking structure with more than 1,200 parking spaces.
“Students will be amazed when this is all done. We’re talking five stories of parking here, what more could you ask for?” Brown said.
EC police Sgt. Jonathan Ott said the need for patience is more crucial now than ever before.
“This is just the beginning of the semester. Wait until we fix the other stuff in the structure. That’s why it is important for students to budget their time wisely and be responsible adults,” Ott said. “Students know there’s construction going on, so be responsible, be a college student and come to school early to solve the problem.”
