Construction is happening everywhere, from the area near the Humanities Building to the new five-story parking structure in Parking lot H. Construction is on track and progressing.
“Construction is very well. We have lots of projects going on and it is being done in a safe, timely manner,” Bruce Hoerning, assistant director of facilties planning and services, said.
EC has plenty of construction projects happening besides the new parking structure on lot H.
“The parking structure has gone very smoothly,” Tom Brown, Assistant Director faculty planning and services said.
A new addition to the Learning Resource Center is also almost completed which would be available to house more materials as well as provide more study rooms to students.
The LRC room is in the final stages of completion as EC has ordered furniture and carpeting, and should be open for the fall 2008 semester.
“We are getting ready to order furniture, so our target is to have it (LRC), ready for the fall semester ,” Brown said.
Two other projects could also be underway, if approved.
One of the projects is the building of a new food service module near the Humanities Building so students wouldn’t have to walk to the other side of campus, and, it offers another alternative to McDonalds or Subway.
“It would be a really nice piece for that side of the area and a nice addition,” Brown said.
EC is waiting on final revisions from the Division of State Architects so they can begin construction this fall on the food court module.
The project is estimated to cost EC approximately $3 million.
Another project also in development would be a renovation of the second floor of the Bookstore to make room for fiscal services, public information and purchasing.
Hoerning added that it would also involve a 300-seat banquet room area to go along witht the other dining rooms such as the Stadium Room and the Alondra Room.
Moving fiscal services, public information and purchasing into the 2nd floor of the cafeteria it will free up space in the Administration Building.
“Students are being flexible with a lot of the changes and are conscientiousness of construction,” Hoerning said.
