Atop the head of Lisa Marie Weyh’s head sits a sparkling rhinestone crown.
Weyh, an adjunct faculty member in the Health Sciences and Athletics Division, won the Ms. U.S. National Achiever competition in April.
“The Achiever Pageant is a very unique program that attracts some of the most amazing women in the world,” Weyh said.
“It is an event where education and community involvement is celebrated, she said. “Contestants in the Achiever Pageant are teachers, lawyers, doctors and members of the Armed Forces.”
“They are also incredible mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends,” she said.
The competition for Ms. U.S. National Achiever took place in Columbia, SC, where Weyh was recognized for her personal achievements, such as founding the Queen of HeArts in 2002, a program that promotes arts education to inner-city youth.
Weyh said the title of Ms. National Achiever is a symbol of her determination and perseverance.
“I represented the state of California and competed against women from across the states in the areas of interview, achievement resume, platform presentation and evening gown,” Weyh said.
“In addition to winning the title, I was thrilled to win the esteemed interview award. I was also lucky enough to win the evening gown award,” she said.
Weyh’s duties include making appearances, participating in community service as well as promotion of her platform, a cause that is important to the individual, she said. Weyh’s platform is arts education in the U.S. public school system.
“As the reigning Ms. U.S. National Achiever, I will represent the United States in the Universal Achiever Pageant, competing against women from countries all over the world,” Weyh said.
Weyh said her family and friends are proud of her hard work and sacrifices that won her the title she had been working toward her entire life.
“When I won, I felt a sense of great accomplishment from within myself,” Weyh said.
“Although I was on stage and receiving material gifts, I truly felt like I gave myself the greatest gift by putting my best self forward.”
“Knowing that I communicated and presented myself in a way true to my heart and was recognized for it with this title is very fulfilling,” Weyh said.
“It is an honor to hold this title because I represent each of the outstanding women who participated in the pageant,” she said.
