Attending summer session classes may allow students to graduate or transfer sooner than planned, counselor Lisa Raufman said.
The first six-week session is June 21 through July 29; the second six-week session is June 28 through Aug. 5 and the eight-week session is June 21 through Aug. 12.
Students may get information and the summer session schedule from the Student Services Center.
Registration for continuing students ends today at 6 p.m. New and returning students may register beginning June 3 through June 7 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“Due to the budget cuts, we prefer students to check the schedule on the Internet. It’s also much more convenient for both sides,” Raufman said.
Students may register online or by phone, Raufman said.
“If you want to be sure that you can enroll in your class, you’ll have to start adding your class from the first enrollment date,” Krischna Howard, information desk receptionist, said.
After the enrollment date, students may add classes by attending the first day of class and obtaining an add slip from the instructor.
Enrollment fees will remain $18 per unit and $156 per unit plus the $11 per unit enrollment fee for international students.
All students who register for summer classes are advised to pay their fees within a week.
“Students cannot drop their class if they don’t fully pay their fees in the Administration Office or on the Internet,” Howard said.
The last day to drop with a full refund for the six-week sessions is June 24. The last day to drop with a full refund for the eight-week classes is June 24.
“For the students who dropped some classes in the spring or previous semesters, the summer session will provide classes for them to catch up,” Raufman said.
Cynthia Gomez, 20, and Carla Baizas, 21, nursing majors, take summer classes to ease the load from their fall and spring semesters and avoid overcrowded classes.
“I think it’s (summer school) going to benefit me because instead of waiting for fall to finish, I can work on other classes,” Baizas said.
“So I figured no one would want to take it in the summer, that is why I chose to take it then,” Gomez said.
