Forward Kelvin Alfaro scored his second goal of the game in the 26th minute in a breakaway, after getting an assist from forward Chris Marckstadt and beating a defender and scoring the goal from the left side of the net.
The two goals from Alfaro weren’t enough, as the game ended in a draw against Mt. San Antonio College, 2-2 last Friday, at Murdock Stadium.
The Warriors made up their September 13th postponed game against College of the Desert on Monday and lost 4-3. The Warriors played Compton College the next day, where Alfaro and Frank Arteaga both scored a goal but EC wound up with a draw against Compton College 2-2.
“Mt.SAC game was decent, we changed things up a little bit, formation wise and we seem to have success with it,” Andrew Britton, assistant coach, said. “It was unfortunate we were unable to continue our success in the games that followed. It was difficult to match the intensity that we had against Mt. SAC.”
The stars of Friday game were Alfaro with two goals and another on Tuesday and goalkeeper Nolan Dean had 14 saves on Friday.
“Nolan was unbelievable in Friday’s game in the back and Alfaro showed up and scored two goals and had a nice one (on Tuesday), that got the ball rolling in our comeback,” Britton said. “Overall Nolan and the back forwards deserve a lot of credit too.”
The Warriors know this was an important game for them and they would have needed to be the better team.
“We know it was a big game,” Britton said. “We know we had to match them or outperform them intensity wise and we had to stick to our tactics and we did that.”
Britton said EC played well enough to win their last three games, but wasn’t pleased with the results.
“We were poor,” Britton said. “We could have beat Mt. SAC played well enough to beat them, didn’t play well on Monday and didn’t play well for 80 minutes on Tuesday,” Britton said.
The Warriors’ next game is tomorrow when they travel to Cerritos to take on Cerritos College at 2 p.m.
“Cerritos is going to be a very difficult game,” Britton said. “It’s going to be a challenge for the men. They have a huge field that they like to take advantage of and it’s going to be a difficult game. A lot of (players) that have not not played before will be used because fitness will be a issue due the size of the field.”
