Campus Forum: Dimitri Lebsock, Forensics team member
Dimitri Lebsock has been participating on the debate team for two semesters and is a philosophy major.
Why did you join the forensics team?
I took the Speech 4 class with Dr. Mark Crossman and I liked it. Dr. Crossman then asked if I would like to be on the team, and I went to check it out and liked it.
What is a goal you would like to achieve?
I want to attend California State University at Long Beach because it’s a liberal college.
What is something you are proud to say that you accomplished?
Doing well on debates.
Where do you want to be in 10 years?
I want to be rich with a trophy wife and make lots of money, hopefully. I want to be a lawyer, but that’s a bit clich?; but if that doesn’t work out, as long as I’m rich and I’ve got a trophy wife!
How do you prepare for your debates?
I don’t really. I just go and debate.
What do you do after debates?
I go and have a couple of beers with the team.
What do you do when you are not debating?
I train in Jiu Jitsu a lot. I have been in training for three and a half years.
How do you keep yourself informed for the debates?
I read The Economist.
What does that team contribute to the college?
Our debate team is really good; we are ranked 14th among colleges and first among community colleges. We have a good program here. We do a lot better than all the other teams too, but we really don’t get a lot of recognition.
Has the debate team made an impact in your persona?
Oh, yeah. I’ve learned more in my time with the team than in any political science class.
In what aspects of life will the experience help you later in life?
It makes you open your eyes. Whenever you are presented with a problem, it forces you to analyze it and see all the sides of the problem or the issue rather than what you are presented.
