Trial for student who allegedly threatened to massacre school is moved to new date

The new start date for the trial for the “student accused of threatening a massacre at the school” is now on June 1, Judge Eric C. Taylor said in court today.

Files that public defender Jonathan Cruz needed to begin trial today were not acquired. He will soon file for a new 995 request for his client James Lemus.

After several minutes of trying to figure out what day works for both Cruz and deputy district attorney Patrick O’Crowley, May 18 is the new pre-trial date.

Taylor asked Cruz to give an estimate of the trial.

“Five or seven days,” Cruz said. “We can make June 4 the last day.”

“If not we can’t go until August,” Taylor added.

After the trial, Lemus blew a kiss to his mother before the bailiff walked him back into the custody chambers.

The next hearing will be on May 18.
