Omnivores can take a walk on the vegan side with these plant-based versions of popular American foods.
The majority of Americans are omnivores, while four percent are vegan and six percent are vegetarian, according to Statista.
Vegan recipes are a treat for all dietary lifestyles. For a non-vegan, these recipes can start someone on the path to “Meatless Mondays” or help transition to an entirely plant-based lifestyle.
For carnivores or omnivores who want to become vegan, they can occasionally sample these and other vegan or veganized recipes until making a full-time commitment.
Here are five veganized recipes of popular American foods for omnivores to try.
Pizza
The Best Easy Pizza Dough recipe from Rabbit and Wolves combined with the Easy Pizza Sauce recipe from Allrecipes makes a vegan pizza.
With the dough and sauce prepared, top it with vegan or plant-based ingredients of choice. For this pizza, Warrior Life used nutritional yeast, mushrooms, onions and bell peppers.

Burger
The Super Firm Easy Vegan Black Bean Burgers (No Chopping!) by Alexis Joseph on Hummusapien provides the blueprint for a vegan dupe of this American staple.
Warrior Life baked these to cook the patty; prepared lettuce, tomatoes and onions; and used different sauces such as mustard, ketchup or barbeque sauce on different burgers.
Use sriracha sauce, paprika and black pepper to create a pretty spicy burger.

Hot dog
The Easy Carrot Dog recipe by Pass the Plants is a good way to eat vegetables.
Warrior Life used the stove top version of this recipe, with toppings that are normally put on a meat hot dog such as relish, mustard, ketchup and barbeque sauce.
In the past, Warrior Life’s staff writer made lentil chili and diced onions to top these carrot dogs with.
Two of these carrot dogs were fed to the staff writer’s nephew. He had one bite of his second carrot dog left and said, “Wait a minute… Is this a carrot?”
He didn’t even know that he was eating a vegetable until he was almost done with his meal. That is how good this carrot dog recipe is by Beth Hornback from Pass the Plants.

Tacos
The recipe, Quick and Easy Lentil Tacos, by Melissa Griffins, on Bless this Mess Please, is a good choice because it relies on spices and ingredients that a typical vegan might regularly have on hand, such as lentils, salt, chili power, cumin, paprika, salsa, olive oil or vegetable stock. Making these tacos doesn’t require anything unusual or hard to find.
When Warrior Life made these lentil tacos, they were served on cooked white corn tortillas and topped with Natasha Kravchuk’s Authentic Pico de Gallo recipe.

Cookies
Usually, Warrior Life’s staff writer bakes vegan chocolate chip cookies but wants to become a healthier vegan.
This cookie recipe, Vegan & Sugar-Free Banana Cookies by Bianca Haun on Elephantastic Vegan, only has five ingredients.
The cookies taste like fresh bananas. Plus, this is a great way to use soft, ripe bananas and reduce food waste.
