The crowd grew anxious after the Warriors failed to push across the game-winning run in the ninth, but redemntion came in the tenth when a wild pitch scored the winning run, sending the fans home in a cheerful mood.

The El Camino College baseball team (12-5 overall, 3-1 in the South Coast Conference) had a total of just three hits on the day, but found a way to pull off its second straight extra-inning win with a 4-3 victory over the Pasadena City College Lancers (6-10 overall, 0-4 in the SCC) on Tuesday.

With the win, the Warriors have now won three-straight conference matches.

“Today is one of those wins that helps you win championships,” EC coach Nate Fernley said. “You have to win some of those (close and tight) games in baseball.”

The Warriors failed to record a hit until the fifth inning but took a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning after a two out, two-run RBI single from sophomore right fielder Nick Sablock.

“It felt really good to hit something on the screws, “Sablock said. “We didn’t get a lot of hits today so it was good to score some guys in and get a lead. We’ve been working on it, and I just threw it as hard as I could.”

Sablock’s big day continued as he came in to pitch recording the final five outs of the game.

“He pretty much did everything today,” Fernely said. “We gave out a game ball at the end of the game and he was well deserving.”

Warriors’ starting pitcher Cassius Hamm allowed a 2-run home run in the first inning but finished with seven solid innings of pitching.

“That’s my job going into the game, giving the team a chance to win,” Hamm said. “Obviously it wasn’t my best performance, but I kept us in the game.”

The team looks to keep it going on the road against Pasadena City College at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
