Men’s basketball beats L.A. Southwest in much needed conference win

The men’s basketball team traveled to L.A. Southwest Friday and it didn’t disappoint by outlasting Southwest, 84-80 at the end of regulation.

After falling to L.A. Harbor in the conference opener, the team needed the win to keep even in conference play.

“We’ve had a very trying week, so it feels great to get a win on the road,” coach Robert Uphoff said.

The team has been having free throw struggles all season but that was not the case against L.A. Southwest as the Warriors shot 70 percent from the line.

“We shot pretty well from the free-throw line, especially down the stretch to close out the game,” Uphoff said.

Freshman forward Da’Koda Lacey and freshman guard Isiah Armstead backpacked the team in scoring; Lacey finished with 24 points and seven rebounds while Armstead added 25 points and three rebounds.

The Warriors shot well from the field with 50.8 percent (31-61).

The Warriors record is now 4-15 and 1-1 in the South Coast Conference. The Warriors go back home and look to defend home court against Long Beach City College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
