Softball team still slumping

Behind Alyssa Stouts RBI single in the first inning against Long Beach City College Tuesday, the softball team felt optimistic that its six game losing streak would come to an end.
“Scoring in the first inning, which normally we don’t do, kind of helped a little bit. I think first inning scoring is always good,” coach Susie Calderon said.
But the uncharacteristic start to the game led to a familiar ending as the Warriors failed to score another run and lost to LBCC by a score of 5-1.
In addition to getting the only RBI, Stout, starting pitcher, pitched a solid game, giving up nine hits and five runs in seven innings, while walking one and striking out two batters.
The Warriors (4-25) will try to rebound from its five game losing streak against Mt. San Antonio College.
Last Thursday, the Warriors played Cerritos College at home and was finally able to score some runs against the Falcons, but lost big again, 14-3.
“They got a lot of hits, but we got a lot of hits. I like the way we hit (last Thursday) but we should have (hit well because) it was the third time we saw this pitcher. I thought we did well,” Calderon said.
Rachel Kudron, designated hitter, went 2-2 with a single and a double, but it was not enough to overcome the Falcons.
“They finally got to that pitcher and that’s why the coach went out there,” Calderon said.
The defense was not as good, as Stout, went seven innings, giving up 14 runs and 17 hits, while walking and striking out two batters.
“We have nothing to lose really and we’re just going to go out there and play our best. There is no pressure on us and more pressure on (the teams) we play, so we are just going to go out there and try to be more relaxed with our at-bats, knowing there’s no pressure on us,” Calderon said.
