Women racing to the top

After a long exciting season, the Women’s track and field team will be having a nice, well-rounded two-week break.

“We are at the point of the season where we could use a weekend off from the mental and physical stressors of competition,” coach Dean Lofgren said.

Next stop for the women will be Mt. SAC for an-all day relay Saturday, April 9.

The team will go to Long Beach for an invitational, in which only those who qualified will compete.

The team the prepares for the South Coast Conference preliminaries and finals, which will be at Compton April 19 and April 23.

“The SCC finals will mean two things: the top six in each event will qualify for the SCC Preliminaries and the most importantly conference pride,” Lofgren said.

Saturday, the team was at Long Beach competing in an open invitational.

In field events, Star Thurman captured first place in the triple jump with a leap of 36-1/2. Thurman finished third in the long jump 16-1.
