Water polo teams try to finish strong after upsetting seasons

Heading into its final games of the season, the women’s water polo team had an early preview of how tough the competition is going to be at this weekend’s tournament.

The Warriors will play two games tomorrow and one Saturday in the South Coast Conference Tournament at Mt. SAC, with their first game coming against No. 2 seed Chaffey.

EC, who will be the No.7 seed of eight teams, was defeated by Chaffey last Wednesday, 20-3, to bring their season record to 6-16.

“(Chaffey) is a very good team, the outcome was evidence of that,” coach Corey Stanbury said.

“Coming into the game, we knew what was going to happen,” he said.

The team’s goal for the conference tournament is to finish in the top four or five position because of where the top three teams are and where the Warriors feel they are at in the end of the season.

“I hope we will be playing for fourth or fifth place,” Stanbury said. “I can see us playing there.”

After the Chaffey game, the Warriors will most likely face Pasadena City, who the women are looking forward to, since both games this year against them were split and was determined by one goal in each game.

“I can’t wait to play Pasadena again because in the last game, their best player was ejected after she hit me in the face,” Melanie Jordan said. “Maybe we can get her ejected from the game faster this time.”
