While the Invitational on Saturday won’t be considered into the standings, the La Cuesta Invitational stands to be very important for the swimmers in regards to learning more about themselves, and the rest of the competition in Southern California.

The team will leave on Friday and stay there until Saturday. This invitational is a two-day event that everyone is looking forward to.

“This is the one,” coach Corey Stanbury said. “We will also learn more about what it takes to get there.”

The Warriors will host two meets at home with L.A. Valley Wednesday and Cerritos Friday.

“I’m glad it is going to be held here because that way, my family can see me,” Cameron Flynn said. “Hopefully, our team can get some faster times.”

Stanbury said that the Warriors will be favored to win the meet against L.A. Valley.

Cerritos however, is a whole different story. Stanbury said that the meet will be very close because Cerritos has beaten Chaffey by two points.

“We’ve done pretty well against good teams,” Flynn said. “I expect to do well at Cerritos as well.”

Cerritos defeated Chaffey by two points, and the Warriors were lost to Chaffey by two points at a dual meet with Rio Hondo on March 12.

The men enjoyed success in Rio Hondo that day.

“The meet was as expected, ” Stanbury said, “even though Allyson Steiner was sick.”

Stanbury said that the Warriors beat Rio Hondo easily, and as expected, “Chaffey beat us fairly easily, They had a lot more depth (that day.)”

The Warriors were short on swimmers that day because some of the members skipped team practice. Those who miss practice normally aren’t allowed to competed in the meets; Stanbury said that losing these players had a major impact on what happened that day.

Despite the disappointing loss, David Allard, 20, reflected on the positives of the meet and said he was not worried against Rio Hondo.

On the women’s side, despite outstanding performances by Dara Abasolo, Jayme Barton, Zuri Morishita and Ashley Stanbury, the women still lost to Chaffey with a score of 88-41.

Much like the men, the women did much better against Rio Hondo. The women dominated Rio Hondo with a score of 73-43.

Kerri Dobra, who finished in first place in the 50-yard fly with a time of 33.49, said that the women did well.

Dobra was not the only one who finished in first place against Rio Hondo. Ashley, Absalo, Barton and Morishita performed well also.

Allard finished in first place in 1000m freestyle with a time of 11:24.92, John Ramillano, who finished in 56.30 in the 100m backstroke, also finished first.

Finishing first place for the Warriors in the 400m free relay, the team of Robert Baird, Matt Briggs, George Ishak, and Matt Pifer finished with a time of 3:32.74. Despite these strong performances though, the Warriors still couldn’t come out on top of Chaffey.

Against Rio Hondo, the Warriors performed much better winning, 87-45.

Finishing in first place were Allard, Flynn, Matt Briggs, John Ramillano George Ishak, Robert Bard, Jose Ortiz and Matt Pifer.
