Grand-slam clinches softball win, Warriors on cusp of first title since 1989

In their 11 wins away from home, the softball team came out on top, 8-7, in their battle against the Cerritos College Falcons.

The Warriors now need just one more win from their next three games to clinch their second ever conference-title and first since 1989.

The Warriors started the game off slow against the Falcons, scoring no runs in the first three innings.

El Camino scored their first run at the top of the fourth when sophomore short stop Tori Garcia homered to center field. Sophomore center fielder Kirsten Romero scored the next run when she homered to left field. At the end of the fourth inning the Warriors were down 5-2.

In the fifth inning, sophomore pitcher Reina Trejo hit a grand slam to right field which sent sophomore catcher Gabby Fordiani, Romero, and Garcia home. Trejo had four RBIs and Fordiani had two.

The Warriors had a big fifth inning scoring five runs total bringing the score to 7-5. The Falcons scored a run in the sixth and the seventh inning. Even with the two runs the Warriors held on to the lead.

The Warriors next game is on April 16 at 3 p.m. at Long Beach City College.
