Union and Warrior Life win eight regional-titles at JACC
El Camino College’s student-run newspaper “The Union” and general interest magazine “Warrior Life” won a total of eight awards from the Journalism Association of Community Colleges (JACC), according to JACConline.org.
The non-profit organization distributed the awards Saturday night at Fullerton College for publications printed over the past 12 months.
“The Union” won joint-third place in newspaper general excellence under spring 2015 editor-in-chief Jessica Martinez, according to JACC. Martinez is currently studying journalism at New York University.
Lastly, El Camino’s general interest magazine “Warrior Life” won third place in general excellence, also under former editor-in-chief Martinez, according to JACC.
Former photographer Amira Petrus and current editor-in-chief John Fordiani won joint second-place for magazine photo-essay. Fordiani and Jorge Villa, photo editor, also won fourth and second place respectively for sports action photo, according to JACC.
Long-time cartoonist Eugene Chang won second place for his artwork in the newspaper. Martinez also won third place for informational graphic on the history of the school’s football stadium, according to JACC.
